I have and they get great reviews but I'm just trying to get my head around the rather steep price tag. (+/- 700 bucks)

Yep- $700 for a rebuilt to new condition 20yr old stereo (still 20yr old technology) would give me pause as well. Have you considered a cd stereo out of a newer (Uk) defender ?

I think Roversnorth was selling a cubby WITH a factory CD player in it for less than that.

I have, but for whatever reason, I like to get my little projects as close as reasonably possible back to "stock".

One of my many peccadillos...

Can't see the attraction of 20 year old radios given how much cheaper and more "in tune" with smart phones today's units are.

I love the stock cassette unit. It's the perfect slightly-shitty style for these trucks; cassettes were almost faded out by the late 90s but LR still put them in. The cassette format is perfect for a long drive. There's no flighty skipping around--you picked a tape and rode with it, taking the good with the bad.

We were having a discussion a few months back on the EE BBS about the perfect cassette for a Defender road trip. I think that the cassette should capture the spirit of the truck and be of the correct period. If I had a stereo in my truck, this is what I would have in my Case Logic box:

Sports - Huey Lewis and the News

Combat Rock - The Clash

Top Gun (Soundtrack) - Various Artists

Beverly Hills Cop (Soundtrack) - Various Artists

Without a Net - Grateful Dead

I just saw Huey Lewis at a private concert in Maui! He sounded great!

My daughter, who is 10 years old, saw me eject a cassette tape out of the '93 LWB in dash unit and said with wonder and amazement...."Daddy, what's that??"

It had been in there for so long I had forgotten about it...LOL

Would this work? Let me know. Not sure if it works as it was spare parts from when I bought my truck. But my truck was spotless when I bought it, so I'm guessing so.
