Newbie Here. Looking for Decent Project Defender

Wanted a 110 defender.
Looking for a decent running project. As long as frame is good, and rust is not horrific.
Looking for a 3 door 110 solid wagon, soft top or 5 door. Prefer LHD, not particular on engine. Just good decent running shape.
What would one expect to pay for one of these? Any ideas just started looking so not sure what the market is.
What is the process to get one titled in California for these older 1980's 110s?

Also if any one has one, may trade my 2009 Harley Iron 883 with 225 miles. Nice and new still. If any interest let me know.
Thanks to all.

I bought a 110 almost a year ago and I would say that the more you spend directly correlates to the condition - I think you really have to set a budget with room for repairs and stay within that

What were you looking to spend?

I have seen them for as little as 10K all the way to what looks like fully restored models at 30-50K.
My budget would be in the lower range 10k to start. And would prob expect to spend another 10K on fixing it to what I like.
I like the 3 door solid walled and saw one on ebay sold for around 12k a little bit ago.

How did it go with registering yours here in Cal.? What was the process?

I bought one that had been registered in another state so the DMV said at that point it was now just a used car. I walked into the DMV an registered it in ca with no problem although I was prepared to be denied and look at other ways to register it

There is a 3 door for sale right now for 12000 that I was trying to get my buddy to buy

Did you have to do smog emissions work/tests Or are these exempt?

Where is the 3 door at? What kind of shape? If you don't mind. If your buddy doesn't want first shot.

If I were in the market or a 3 door 110, I would seriously look at this: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ad.php?t=38147

Looks like I am already following the same 3 door we are all talking about.
Thanks for the heads up. I sent them a few questions already.

3 door 110's don't seem like great off road vehicles. they are long and dark. if you've driven one off road then ignore all of this but $10-12K for LHD anything will provide lots of work someone else didn't want to deal with.
