LT230Q transfer gearbox

Need a transfer gearbox to mate with a Defender R380, with 1.222 gear ratio instead of the usual 1.4. Any suggestions for vendors also most welcome.

Cheers,
John

Contact your local salvage yard and get one off a D1.

Pretty sure D1 is not a Q box they were in the DII but to use a DII is not as simple as the DI box.

Just go with the standard 1.2 DI box it might not be as quite as the Q box but easier to fit and less

D1 LT230s from about mid 1996 had the "Q" fine cut gears. This will be your easiest approach. Find a D1 box and remove the interlock solenoid.

I have a LT230 sitting in the back of my Series and not sure where it came from and if it is good. I think it has to be a 1.2. I can check this weekend.

As Rob alluded, about mid 96 on you can find them in D1's; I am certain of this because my 97 XD has one in it that I'm saving to retrofit into my 96's standard gearing.

If the disco it came out of has a rotoflex coupling at the rear diff, then it wasn't built with a Q box

If it has a u-joint rear shaft, then it was

but be advised the earlier boxes are sometimes swapped into these trucks, and vice versa as the Q boxes can be found installed as replacements on the earlier models. Easy way to tell is with a non fully splined spud shaft as go/no-go tool you can only fit "just the tip" into a q box. (its a real bitch to find this out under a truck while holding a tcase over your head)
