LT230 with 1.4 gears or just the 1.4 gears!!

So I figured out that I have a 1.6 LT230 transfercase as I almost exploded the engine trying to hold 65 mph actually it did well except the whole superheated cubby box over the t-case. So I looking for
1. Adice
2. parts to accomplish said advice

1. do I swap the high range gears with the Ashcroft kit and just put 1.4 gears in (if so how hard is this to do?)

2. get a whole t case with the 1.4 gears? i realize that this is easier so with that in mind does it matter if it's a disco vs defender lt230? My truck is a Defender 110

Any advice is appreciated.

well - I have a used 200tdi 1.4 ratio LT230 from a 1992 sitting here in good shape as far as I can tell. Some interest in it - but has to be shipped. You're close, so you wouldn't have to deal with that. Fairly easy swap. You running a diesel? I couldn't handle the lack of power with the 200tdi even with 1.4 ratio (on california highways) so I'm going big.

of course, getting the 1.4 gears and a re-build kit from ashcroft gets you a rebuild vs. throwing in a used one.

The disco cases work(I'm putting a 1.2 in my truck now), but you have to dis-able/remove the park solinoid thing. I think most of them are 1.2 ratio.

yes i'm running a 200tdi diesel, i moved to livermore so even closer. now you've got me thinking even more, why going with the 1.2? i have a CT110 from 89 and don't really need to go faster than 65-70 to be honest and hopefully pull 55-65 up some hills to tahoe now and then. what would you want for your t case?

thanks
Chris
