Lost key help.

Lost my original and the spare isn't working at all. How do I get a key made? I've got the local dealer checking into having one VIN made in NJ, but they're not even sure how long that would take etc. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Not sure. It's never worked and to be honest I'm not even sure that it starts this vehicle. It hasn't mattered until now. Brought it over to the hardware store and had them buff out out good because it was sharp-new. Thought that might do it, but nope. Any tricks I might try? It is sometimes a ass to get the steering lock undone, but I feel like I'm just going to twist the key right off with this spare.

When I did mine, I removed the cylinder from the steering column and filled the "locks" with the key in place.

The process to remove the cylinder is a PITA, but not hard.

The key that the dealer will give you most likely will not work. As the cylinder internal are also worn.

Original key located behind file cabinet. Thanks for the advice, but I'm glad I didn't have to use it.

Glad you found it -- may be a good opportunity to replace the lock assembly with a new one that has 2 keys with it.

He can have the spare "re-filled"... sometimes the machine will leave metal shavings and they need to polish it.
