Jafir cobbled together a PS system for his 2.5NA. Check with him and see what he used and his cost. I think it was pretty reasonable.

I try not to add everything up at the end

I got lucky and paid $20 or $25 for the steering box from a disco (easy to find for a LHD... might be pricier for a RHD, unless you find one that is just taking up space after a RHD to LHD conversion).

I think it was a couple hundred dollars for the pump, reservoir, brackets, and used hoses as a kit from Robert Davis. I don't recall exactly, but I do recall he's a good guy and only charged me actual shipping costs, and even refunded the difference when it was cheaper than he estimated.

I decided to buy a couple of new hoses instead of having the old hoses rebuilt or copied at a hydraulic shop. This is one place where RHD is better than LHD. The LHD hoses are long and run back and forth across the engine bay a couple of times. They were pretty cheap, but a lot of the part numbers have been superseded over the years, so it took just a bit to find the right stuff. It might be easier just to have some made, like a lot of people suggest.

I needed a new crank pulley, and the only one that makes sense to buy is the 3 groove pulley, because you can get it aftermarket and it's only about $90. If you get that pulley, order all of you belts "with a/c" even if you don't have it, because the pulley is a different diameter, and the 3 groove pulley allows for a/c. I ended up getting a belt matched up at the part store because I ordered the wrong one.

Thanks much for the info! Do you remember if the other items you picked up from Robert Davis were off a Disco or Defender?

Defender, because I don't think the 2.5 was put in Discos, because by the time the disco was released the 200tdi was ready.

I'm not sure on mine, because it was used. I think mine is NTC8287, for the 2.5. The 200tdi version is NTC8288. They look almost exactly the same on google but the pressure hose hooks up differently. I assume either would work if the correct hose was used. But I'm not SURE.

This is the problem i'm having, authoritative lists are tough to put together. About to order the restoration guide off amazon hoping that sheds some light.

RHD Power Steering Box

Have everything I need for power steering system minus a RHD box. Are there other options out there besides a Land Rover box? Anything aftermarket?

I'll have to look at my stash to confirm this but wouldn't the P38 box that sits outside the frame rail work in this application?

I'm not sure, but that would be nice! Rover has a 5.3 LS in it. The 4 bolt power box fits on the right hand side with the a/c compressor removed.

Thanks.

Looking at Google images it appears the bolt pattern is different. For me, I'd just mod the frame rail to suit this box by drilling holes and inserting crush tubes where needed. The P38 PS box I have is still attached to the rail section I cut out with it to meld into my 110 chassis. The later boxes are supposed to be better quality....supposed to be. It's still a land rover part however.

That is a definite possibility and a cheaper option too. I would still need a RHD P38 box though correct?

^ No. The stock RHD sits inside the frame rail. The LHD P38 sits outside the frame rail. You'd just move it over to the RHD inside and figure how to make it fit.

Seems to be getting confusing... Just get the normal correct box and bolt it in. There is not going to be a better, cheaper option. Just shop around.

I've no idea why mark is suggesting the P38 box?

Needed and did this to my 110 recently. Tim at Dingocroft.com can source all this for you. I know from experience and I've yet to find his prices beat.
