Load bearing cage for 109 soft top. Wolf cage?

Looking to replace the hood stick “cage” that supports the canvas top on a 1972 Land Rover Series III, 109.

I do NOT need a heavy duty off-road roll cage ("why not?" say you. More on that later). I only need it to be sturdy enough to support the weight of 2-3 paddle boards - say a maximum of 80 lbs.

I want it to be the exact same size/shape as the existing “cage” so the canvas top still fits. Basically mimic the design of the existing “cage" but more heavy duty.

So why not a proper off-road roll cage?

First of all, this vehicle will only be driven on an island where speed limit is 35mph. No off-roading. I feel pretty safe that we won’t tip over.

Second; the roll-cages I’ve seen are (expensive) and attached to the frame/chassis (expensive installation?) and (as far as I know) don’t mimic the shape of the existing canvas-supporting “cage". Which means I would need both a roll cage AND the canvas cage.

Sounds a bit like I’m describing a Tithonus wolf cage. But they don’t fit a 109 do they?

Just thought I would check with the forum before I find a local fabricator.

Hope this makes sense. Any thoughts/leads very appreciated.

Yes they fit, but the profile is not the same as a standard hood-stick set - the roll cage is taller and a slightly different profile.

Thanks. Do you think the 109 canvas would stretch over/fit a wolf cage. I anticipate having the canvas rollled up all the time. Florida...

There are also plenty of marine fabricators in your area that would be able to fab exactly what you want. Also Bobcat110 may have a Tithonus cage for sale - I think.

Good point about marine fabs. I'll also check with Ken about a Tithonus cage. Off topic, but did you see the 130 they have?!! Man...

Given way soft tops mount into the tub, be hard to make something stronger and still fit into said holes.
If the bobcat110's cage fits length and width wise that might just be the fix you need.
