I need to borrow a diesel compression test kit

anyone have one they can loan me? I want to check my compression health to try to chase down a mistery oil leak I'm having trouble finding. 300 tdi fittings work for me.

I would gladly let you borrow mine but considering I only paid $40.00 for mine from Harbor Freight I think getting it to you would be more expensive than buying one. Although if you happen to be in the NJ area, you could drop by and I would be happy to do the test at my place.

I too am chasing oil leaks on my 2.5 TD, 19j engine. The compression was fine in all cylinders around 420 PSI. I just purchased a oil leak tracer kit consisting of a UV Florescent dye you put into the oil to trace leaks.

That's great info! I know harbor freight had the kit but wasn't clear if the kit had the right adapters for the TDI glow plug threads. Can anyone confirm if the 19J glow plugs have the same threads as the later tdi's?

I'm going to get that tracer kit. Where did you get it? I've seen the UV dies for AC and coolant at NAPA and Autozone, but never saw any for oil.

Never mind about die. I see now bunch of stores have it. Guess I never noticed.

The kit from Harbor Freight I purchased: Diesel Engine Compression Tester 12 Pc contains a series of adapters.

The dye I bought was on Amazon:
Tracer Products TP34000601 UV Fluorescent Leak Detection Dye - Set of 6

I plan to use the leftovers to determine my "leaks"

Little more research reveals that the 300 TDI has a 10x1.0 thread. This harbor freight kit below has 10x1 adapter in it, which is also used by Navistar, VW TDI's and Mercedes.

Thanks for the tip Richard! I should have googled harder!
