Question Fuel Cap for a 85

I am looking for a fuel cap for my 1985 D90, seems that this is a size not used after vin AA236??? and that a new one from the UK is somewhere around $80

The outside dia of the filler neck is 3 5/8"

Anybody have one

If failing to get a cap, I will have to change out the complete filler neck.

Thanks

I think I have what you need. I will confirm size in the morning, but it will be new old stock, locking type and I will sell for $30 which includes shipping.

The caps I have are part # STC4072 and fit a filler neck with an outside dimension of 3 1/8". I wasn't sure about the 3 5/8" dimension on the filler neck and that's what I wanted to verify.

Well, I just checked mine and it's only 3 1/4" wide so it won't work either. Sorry.

Very old listing but I need some advise.

Lost a 2 lug filler cap from a 1986 90 D.
According to the parts manual I need the NRC9572.

However, I have two other (1984+1985) Defenders here with a 2 lug filler cap, which all should have the same part number, (there is only one partnumber for the 2 lug in the Land Rover manuals) but non of the caps is fitting. All are to small.

The filler neck of the one I need is 3 5/8''.

Before ordering the NRC9572, can somebody confirm this is the right one and for the 3 5/8'' filler neck ?

NRC9572 is the right cap for early Defenders. It's also very expensive.

I ended up retrofitting WLH100570 to my truck and using modern filler caps that cost $10 each. Way better.

I'll also say the the early cap "new" sucks at keeping fuel in. I had to cut a replacement gasket from epdm sheet rubber to make it work.

Look down your filler neck- are there two prongs for the cap to grab or three ? The early three prong caps that came on 83- are crazy expensive and the gaskets were leather.

When I was in the same boat lol, I used a new filler neck from a series 3 and cut the tube to fit. You will lose the extension that way. Or pony up 50 odd pounds in the UK for for a new one.

I know exactly where my old is/was, Fleet services on the M6 sitting on top of the pump.

Thanks for the input but still have my problem.
Maybe my question wasn't clear.

I need a 2 lug cap for a fillet neck of 3 5/8

All the defenders I have with two lug caps are 3 3/8 on the neck.

Parts manual of Land Rover only gives one part number for 2 lug cap although obviously there are two different ones.

What do I need ?

Long story, but I can't change the neck.

I stay busy as hell, but have a whole box of fuel caps at home.
If you can take a picture of your filler, I can see if I have something that works for you.

I recall early British Leyland Inc series LR having two catches on the outer edge of the cap. But around 1985 when emissions stuff started, the catches moved to the middle of the cap.
