Front UK Number Plate

Looking for one off of an early 80's defender or series, prefer an original and not a reproduction one. Has to be the long one, not the square one that goes on the front with of a early series. Let me know what you got.*

What "number" do you want on it? when you say original, how do you mean? They're all the same over here regardless of what vehicle they are screwed to (some of the newer plastic laminated ones have the LR logo in them, or other crap like "GB" or "euro")

Really early ones, like early '80s, had a metal rear piece (the oblong bit) and the letters/numbers were moulded plastic that clipped in (and usually broke off after a shunt)

It's also my understanding that there are shops (or used to be shops) that specialize in making custom number plates using your number, so there's a large variety of "original" plates.

I have plates lot of them. I have been making a collage on a sliding door in my shop with them. White plates go on the front, yellow on the rear. I have been doing my best to put pairs of them in garages all over the US.

So you have a nice used set?

What I am trying to get is one that was originally issued to an early 90/110 or late series 3, and not a newly printed one, my truck has patina of sorts, and I would like to keep the look, and have a plate that is of an era that a series 3 is from.

Don't want custom letters on it, don't want my own plate number, I want to make it look like it is fresh off of the boat.

plates don't get issued in the UK they are just made to reflect the registration number that is allocated when the vehicle is sold for the first time. After that every subsequent owner retains the same registration and can get new plates made ... .... they are just plastic .... in the 90's you could walk into any autostore and have them made ... you need something of the format XXX 111 N where 'N' is the year code for 1974

I know a little bit about how the number plates work, I know they have private company's that make plates, i just wanted a plate that was made 30+ years ago, while I would love a plate that dates back to 74 with the N Reg, I don't feel like paying for one from my exact year, any plate from 71-85 is good for me as it is series 3 correct. I will be running a 1974 Connecticut lisence plate so long as DMV approves my plate.

I have an original issue N reg plate but I am sorry that I cannot part with it due to the fact that the truck was my first full restoration. I even found an original 1974 tax disc to display in the windscreen when I took it to shows, I thought it was a nice touch but not sure if anyone else ever noticed it. I have kept the plates on all the trucks I have imported because they all have great memories.

Try this and scuff and bang it around a bit before install. http://www.tippersvintageplates.co.u...ocument&part=3

Unlike in the US plates in the UK stay on the vehicle.

Yeah but unlike the US any garage in the UK can make them for you with their logo on the bottom. Pretty much every large dealership in the Uk makes up new plates with their names/logos on them as part of their detailing process on a used defender.

I'll keep a look out for any of my friends who have broken rovers up or have an old set kicking about.

As for the plates here in the UK... for the last 6 or 8 years now, to get a set of plates made up you need to produce the vehicle log book (V5), a form of ID/passport/blood sample etc (OK, not quite blood sample...) as they are/were trying to crack down on cloning of plates (someone with a car the same as yours, same colour/spec...typical eurobox rubbish, copy your plates, drive like an ass, get parking tickets, drive off without paying for gas, then leave the genuine owner to explain it to the law)

So now the lowlife just physically rip the plates off of the car they want....

But anyway, I'll keep my eyes peeled for an early set with the raised lettering.
