Fiber Glass Top

I have a fiber glass top for my 95 Defender, but I don't have any of the hardware. Does anyone know where I could purchase the hardware or is anyone willing to see theirs? Thoughts?

I am assuming there are some sort of fastners (nuts and bolts?). I have the top, sides, back door and struts. What am I missing?

The hardware list is in the instructions, which is listed as a PDF here (on this site no less):

http://www.defendersource.com/tech/f...p_install.html

All the hardware is stainless, just order it from mcmaster.com (no need to buy the 314 - it costs twice as much as the 18-8).

For the rectangular washers which go in the gutter, buy a strip of stainless and just drill and cut it.

I have some but it is basically crap and I don't have a complete set. Do what JimC says as there is not that much to the hardware for one, just a lot of stainless bolts. Also DO NOT TORQUE THEM DOWN HARD AS ALL. Snug only. That is why they use nylock nuts, so you can torque them lightly (the original hardtops came with a nut driver with a rubber flexible shaft to limit torque).

Tom,
I have a few extra rectangular washers for mine. Maybe the guys above can pull together atleast the number of rectangular washers you will need for the top. I don't have any spare plastic grommets which go in the holes between the sides and the caping. Any one else in for a donation to Tom's cause?

sounds like you have it under control, but if you need to get a set I bought a new stainless set when I fix my top. it was an incredible $300 for nothing special but some funny shaped washers. good luck I sold my top with all the hardware

314 is a higher grade of stainless steel than 18-8. For example, at mcmaster.com for example, part number 91287A139 is a pack of 50 M6x30mm bolts for $7.30. The corresponding part number in 314 stainless is 93635A218, but the price is 10.51 for a pack of 25 - more than twice the price. The 314 is very pretty, but not necessary for this application.

It can be intimidating ordering bolts for the first time , so I would recommend the following:
91287A139 qty 50 M6x30mm hex head bolts
91287A137 qty 100 M6x20mm hex head bolts
91116A150 qty 100 M6 18mm flat washers
93625A250 qty 100 M6 nyloc nuts
90061A017 black nylon shoulder washers

I combined some things, i.e. you can use the 30mm bolts everywhere the 25mm ones are required, so there's no point ordering tons of excess.

You can probably just trim the sides off the washers to make "nut plates" - you'll see they are intended to fit into a little recess in the gutters to spread the load out and not create a hole.

The stock installation tool is nothing more than a nut driver with a flexible handle made out of a spring. They are available at sears, but not 100% necessary. You just have to be careful not to crank the fasteners down too hard.

So these are the stepped washers that fit on the bottom rail of the side and rear window panels?

I've been looking for replacements for a long time. (Am tired of using mangled originals and Home Depot water faucet repair plastic washers...). Thanks, Jim!

Its the closest I could find in the mcmaster catalog, but someone should order them and test them out. I made a best guess since I've seen and used the real ones before and I figured it would be easier than some poor guy who doesn't know what they are for trying to guess the right size. I was just going off their measurements on the site and using my knowledge that they are used with M6 bolts where the top attaches to the tub cappings. The dimensions aren't exact.

Allen at North Texas Rover had a complete LR set, but I agree with everyone else- the shouldered nylon washers are nice to have, but not necessary.
