Dome light switch

I'm looking for one of these for an '88 ROW 90.

Is there another, better alternative? Doesn't have to be stock, but I would like all my switches on that side to match.

It it were me (and it sort of is, since I did this recently on the 1988 127) I'd ditch it completely for a Carling ON-OFF-ON switch. I wired it up so that up is the dome, and down is the instrument lights.

While you're at it....I'd also ditch the crappy factory hazard in lieu of a Carling Hazard as well. This is actually what spawned my changeover, as the hazard went out and it was like $80 for a new one. The interior dome light switch if I recall is up there in price as well. For $20/ea or so, the change to Carlings is "where its at".

Shameless plug as well, but to aid in my changeover I fab'd up an aluminum switch plate to accept 3 Carlings in lieu of the plastic switch panel #MTC2640 (that takes the smaller Rover switches). The aluminum version of my switch plate for the 3-Carlings should be out of production and ready by the end of this month or early part of March at the very latest.

Yeah, I was thinking carling to match the ones going into the raptor console, just figured I would see what the stock ones cost. If that's the case, put me down for a plate as well. And I may need to upgrade to some of your other nice pieces since I heard the comments about my "plastic" at the HH. I'll drop you an email when I figure it out. Thanks

I'll add you to the list and drop you a line once they are "officially" done...I should even have them in-hand by the March happy-hour if you had any plans to swing back by.

Hi there,

I just registered here since I stumbled upon the post from Jason. I've been looking for ages for someone to machine a replacement for the #MTC2640 panel to accept Carling switches!

Put me on the list for one as well, please.

Any chance to post some pic's when they're done?

Elian:

Thanks for tracking me down! YES, the switch plates are done...they are at powdercoat as we speak and *should* be in my hands later this week. I've attached a couple of very rough/sample photos.

Excuse the crudeness of them, they are just quick photos of the prototypes. Also excuse the "double" switch on the right, I didn't have time to wire in the Carling replacement for those switches so just stuck them in there (like I said, these are just pics of the mockup...I'll do proper photography once the plates are back from powdercoat).

Ha! I'll drop you a line the instant they are back in my hands from powdercoat (first batch of products with the grill, defrost vents, door handles) was just picked up on Friday - but again these switch plates are in the 2nd batch that were dropped on Friday and should be done very soon.

It’s official ! The 3-Carling Lower Dash Switch Panel (for ROW configuration) is now up on the website for ordering and is ready to ship:
https://www.seriesdefender.com/face/...panel-row.html

(Elian - I sent you an email directly as well)

On a side note, it's been fantastic to have a Hazard switch that actually works, and an interior/dash lights switch that doesn't - literally - fall apart every time you turn it on or off.

Ordered!

Oh... And since I'm no wizard with car electrics; would you be so kind to put up a wiring diagram that tells me how to swap the LR switches for the Carling ones? Would be nice to have them illuminated as well...
My set-up is the same as yours: Heated Rear Windscreen - Hazard - Dome/Instrument.

Many thanks in advance and proud to probably be the first one in Europe to have this mod installed

Elian:

Below is the hazard wiring diagram (got this right from Carling).

I'll try to take a look and see what my wiring was for the interior light (I do know that I used an OFF-ON-ON switch from Carling...essentially first "ON" is the dash/parking lights, second "ON" is the interior light).

I don't have the heated rear windscreen (since it's a 130), but I'd imagine that should be a basic OFF-ON Carling switch.
