Defender aluminum ignition key

Hi All,

i need a stock pile of defender ignition keys. they HAVE to be aluminum. [ that means a magnet does not stick to it ]. last time i bought 20 of them from a member they were aluminium until they showed up in my hand. turns out they were steel.

thanks!!

Many (?most?) stainless steel is non-magnetic as well. Just pointing this out - I have no idea what key blanks are usually made of but they are shiny

so long as the magnet does not stick - the hardware store will cut them =)

Sorry for the dumb question , but can you pm me or post as to the difference and why aluminum is a must? This is something I literally have never thought about. Thanks

very simple - the hardware store across the street will NOT cut steel. [ i have found this with many "key" shops. their wheel gets chewed up with steel key. ] literally it is that simple of a reason. =) they have aluminum blanks - but they are ugly. i like giving the LR keys with the defenders.

just one of the many goofy thing about me. =)

I bought a key from a member here a while back and wasn't aware of the issue with steel keys. Took it to a locksmith and he wouldn't cut it. Said it would destroy his wheel. He searched through a pile of old blanks he had laying around for years and found the correct match and cut the key for me. He was amazed to have had a need to cut that blank and said that's why he keeps old stock around.

Now, I would still love to get that OEM LR key cut, but I have no clue who will do it.

I just bought a key from defendersnorth with the LR fob. I have no idea if that is steel or aluminum. Anyone know? Part number RNC789.

The key blank for a Toyota numbered TR40-PH works as well.

I bought the one for $30 from RN, took it to the hardware store and they cut it no problem.
