Interested in what is behind that bezel. What failed and how did you fix it? I've always thought the analog clock is one of the more iconic "Defender" items in the interior. In a rental Chrysler 300 this weekend and the entire dash put an emphasis on the analog clock. Nice that old school is cool again.

What I found when investigating was that the last owner had disconnected the power. when I connected it I found that the minute hand was being dragged by the second hand and looked a little off center. It would just turn in unison to the second hand. I decided to open it up and take a look. Once the clock is pulled from the truck it is easy to take apart. The two metal tabs that hold the clock in the dash slide outward and there are two small plastic catches that if pushed in with a screw driver will release. The whole mechanism will come out of the case, what I found was a bunch of plastic gears and a small electric motor. There are three shafts that the 3 different hands sit on with a pressure fit. The outer shaft is the hour hand, the middle shaft is the minute and the inner is the second. The second hand shaft is splined and the second hand slide over that and acts to hide/trim out everything. What I found once I removed all the hands was that the outer(hour hand) shaft had move forward after all these years and pushed the minute hand off its shaft. The minute hand was resting against the second hand and was being turned by it. I simply pushed back the hour hand shaft to expose the minute hand shaft, refit all the hands and slid the case back on. I plugged it in and it worked like a charm!
