I'm planning on off-roading a few times per year on medium duty trails. I have been stuck in the past. Usually in deep mud.

The truck will be parked in the garage.

I assume in your research you looked at this:
https://www.facebook.com/27758839905...4&pagefilter=3

I'd suggest the Superwinch Tiger Shark series over the HF winch. Winches are not really a place to skimp on IMHO; get a decent known entity and put a synthetic line on it.

Thanks Ray. Yeah I looked at that one too. But my budget would only allow for a 9500 rather than a badland 1200. With proper strapping with pulleys etc I'm sure that would be fine.

This one?

9500 is probably 1500 more than you really need for a 90 if that's what you are throwing it on-a good 8k winch would get it done. That said you can, and should, always be prepared to run the snatch block back, esp if you get bogged into deep mud.

That link, absent synthetic vice steel, is what I put on my LR3 to see how it will do-I can't speak on it yet but am happy with the quality out of the box and John's pulling apart of the winches was fairly illustrative to me.

$300 bargain winch on a $30,000+ D90. Good grief.
You get what you pay for.

I paid nothing for my Defender 90. But that's a story for another day.

At the very minimum go with a Tigershark, I've never had an issue with mine. That being said, it's an item worth spending money on.

I've been thinking about the Tigershark 9500 SR model for my 90 and my LR3, anybody have experience with that model?

Amazon customers like the Tiger Shark a lot. I'm a Warn guy but based on the reviews and for $349.99 w/ free prime shipping I would give it a try.

Yea, that's what's on my LR3. No pulls in anger but seemed solid out of the box and during install. I love my ep9 but this was a good buy for the $ and likely usage.

That's the one I run on my D2 and will on my D1. It's never let me down, but I typically run a snatch block in most recoveries

Any regrets with the Tigershark SR? I'm a 30+ Warn winch guy but am thinking of straying.

I honestly hope you do switch, Dave! I'll never own anything but superwinch. Reds are amazing but too fast and $$ for me

If you're not in a rush, craigslist
https://hartford.craigslist.org/pts/5121275111.html (I'd buy this one in a heartbeat)

I'd get any of those before the HF winch.

You totally need a Superwinch Husky 10. I know a guy who has a new one for sale for $300 off the retail price.
