Badge

Dumb Question.... I recently purchased a 1997 BRG D-90 soft top. I just went to look for the "badge number" and there is no number etched into the badge on the rear of the truck. Also, the badge states at the bottom that it is a "station wagon" and is mounted to the vehicle with 4 flat head screws. Was the original badge replaced? If so, how do I go about findng out the original badge number and replacing the current badge with a OEM badge? Thanks so much for any help.

Hi, The original would have been rivited on and say "Defener 90" rather than station wagon.
Have a look at http://www.lrfaq.org/Defender/FAQ.De...der_97D90.html to find your badge number by the VIN. Ebay sometimes has genuine plaques, or Falon nameplates in the uk can engrave a fake one for you.

The falon plates, if not OEM, are every bit as good. They're both cast aluminum and are identical in every other way.

There is a company that makes copies that you can search to find but of you want genuine old stock, there is one listed on eBay right now

I find the Falon one does not have the surface finish of the genuine parts one. I would snap Ron's up for $80 and have the real thing, its a good deal.

The only difference I can spot is that one the falon ones are laquered over. The originals are unfortunately unfinished and the exposed parts corrode.

Its not just the laquer, its the cast or machine surface finish.

In 1994 I bought a brand new 94 yellow d-90 soft top when I was a junior in college. It was my dream car!! Fast forward to the year 2000 after 100K miles and I made the stupid decision of selling her when I was about to get married in order to buy a more "family" oriented car. Needless to say, it was the worst decision that I have ever made. After 10 years and marriage and 3 sons, the D-90 bug never left my system so I had to find another one. Now I am a happy camper once again!!!

Here are two pics that were sent to me by the seller before I bought the truck. I have added 4 Hella 3000's to the top and will be adding a Mantec snorkel shortly.... I will post more pics once the 40 inches of snow (now ice) melts here in CT!!!! I need some advice re: a good winch bumper / brush bar combo...... Any suggections?? Thanks again to all.

PS - I also just want to add that the seller was a great guy. I am not sure it was him who ganked it, but even if it was, I wouldn't be mad at him. He was heart broken to be selling her and maybe just wanted something to remember her by. He was making almost the same stupid decision that I made back in 2000!!! Again, he was really a great guy as most rover owners are!!

There have even been a few who have reported that bits like the badge were stolen in transit while on the back of a carrier.
