Aftermarket Cup Holders

I have searched the threads and have seen discussions about installing new cubby boxes, etc that have cup holders. However I am after some opinions on cup holders that can be installed in a 95 D90, without having to replace the cubby box, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

you have an original cubby? Two options as I see it

-The delux Tuffy ones come with them if I recall as a separate piece that you can mount in the back or the front.
-Search the Internet for moulded plastic ones that wrap over the transmission tunnel - may interfere with your stick though.

You could probably buy some clip type that would clip to your dash and look like crap if you're looking to go that route? I'd personally want something that is secure so that a drink doesn't just flop over when going over a bump.

See if Tuffy will sell you just the cup holder - I'm sure they will. The issue is that the original cubbies were made of wood and plastic, and mounting screws in one to secure some cup holders may not be the best thing.

Well I assumed mine were OEM, but the box is metal and has an old lock (no longer functional, but in Maine we don't lock anything anyway). It has a large section, a smaller section in front of that (which now houses a stereo) and then the little pencil tray in front an at the bottom of that. So I guess I could mount some at the back of the box, but was hoping for something up front on/ around the dash.

Thanks
Tom

You can move the console back and plenty of us have the cup holders mounted in the front - someone may have mounted your console very forward to avoid having to use a spacer underneath the console to clear the internal portion of the roll cage behind the seats. Post a photo of yours and look for the word "Tuffy" up on the lid as yours sounds sort of like one of them.

Yup, just went and looked at it. It is a Tuffy box. and you are correct they mounted it so it sits in front of the roll bar. I have about 3 in between the pencil tray and the differential lock cowling. I will definitely have to play with the placement before deciding on holders. It does look like you can just get them from Tuffy. Thanks for the input.

Good thing they're out of stock so that he's not tempted to do this. There are better ways to secure your Slurpee than to start drilling holes in a "rare" unmolested dash. But it's your truck - do whatever best suits your current needs.

No worries, I don't plan on putting any additional holes anywhere. I have perfected the lap hold for shifting purposes, so I am good till I can move my Tuffy Box and mount some cup holders! But thanks for the suggestions. :-)

If you get the Tuffy cup holders you can make your life much easier in the future if you ever need to take them off to get the transmission cover off by putting in M6 rivnuts instead of the screws and nuts that are supplied with it. Taking the stereo out and trying to squeeze your hand into that tiny space to hold the nuts is a pain.

Not much better of a way...these things are awesome.

Now I USED to have an unmolested D90...mirror finish black, no miles, no rust, so scratches --- NO FUN!

This time around I bought a molested, drilled, cut, cracked, dented D90...so what are another couple of holes in cut/cracked dash trim...esp when they will hold just about anything...

:-)

And Amazon has them in stock:
