Mike,
Come on now. I know you and your shop of magicians can wip up a mold and spit those out probably over a pot of coffee, and even add an extra beverage holder to boot!

P.S, when are you going to update your site? I need my daily soaps!
P.S.S. I'm putting in my vote for you to add in the webbased ECR ShopCam! Watch RoverMagic live via broadband! You could even do scheduled special webevents live.."Watch ECR install a Mantec Snorkel!"

Yes, we could make one, but the plastic of the original is better than the plastic that we can reproduce it in.

Web site will be updated later this week. We are in the midst of some shop repairs (redoing the spray booth and such) in order to get ready to the coming expansion, so web sork has taken a back seat.

Web cam... I don't think so. That would mean I'd have to shave and stuff before I came to work.

center console tray

If anyone knows where I can buy the tray. I bought a 97 and someone cut it to fit a CD Player in it.

Everyone with a 97 should talk to Len and buy a stainless cosole and sell the originals to Mike for use in high-end conversions, that way everyone is a winner.

Making them is too costly. I've looked into it and mold costs alone put it outside the reach of reality (or at least my reality).
Thanks though.

Try George at RDS. I know he had a bunch made a few years back. they were fiberglass but had all the right texture as the stock ones.

Nope, RDS sells the Ashcroft/Frogs Island unit and that is the repo that doesn't cut the mustard.
See earlier posts on this thread.
I am only looking for factory Land Rover parts. I have plentry of the repos and they suck.

Thanks

Mike, how difficult do you think it would be to fit one of those to a RRC?

Unknown.
The RR Classic tunnel area is flat and the Defender one has a large drop to it (seat box/ floor) so they don't really cross with each other. Shifter placement is likely different as well. Don't know, never looked into it. Sort of like putting apples in the pumpkin pie. It'll likely cook up OK... but it ain't pumpkin pie.

Good point (and analogy). So how bad are the Ashcroft versions?

The Ashcroft/RDS/ etc repos are OK, just not good enough for our restorations. In any "driver" Defender they would do fine, we install them periodically. They are molded off the same factory part and look the same. It is mainly in the cubby box area and feel that they suffer. Its fiberglass vs. a flexy plastic.
Basically... they are cheaper knock offs. Just like a fake Rolex, or anything else. If you look close... you can spot the fake.

they are pretty good but as you say they are not perfect. George actually has his own made for him hence why I mentioned it as they are not the ahscroft units.

I think jim is onto something, get everyone to put in a nice Staineless Steel unit and bag the crappy plastic ones so you can put them in your resto's.
