300TDI tools

I am rebuilding the 300TDI that I got from Duncan. Does anybody have or know where I can buy the crankshaft gear puller and the crankshaft handle looking thing? I bought the timing belt tool kit from RN, but it does not have either one of these tools.

Thanks in advance.

Not quite - you'll need the tool to hold the crankshaft pulley in place while loosening the bolt. I picked up one from difflock.com, as well as the driveshaft nut tool. Took about three days to arrive here in Austin.

I checked difflock. I like their crankshaft locking tool, but the gear puller kit would be redundant. If only the RN kit worked for pulling the crankshaft pulley.

Any other ideas or am I going to blow another $365?

You don't need the gear puller. It's nice but not a must. All you need is the kit. It includes everything you will need. I would give the part # but lent it to a friend who is doing a timing belt on his 300 tdi. Don't waste your money.

Call Eric. Here is his direct # 518 539 2231

Thanks guys. The job is 50% done. Any source of crankshaft locking tools other than difflock? The tool and shipping would run $160. A bit stiff for one friggen tool.

Hi daniel,
A bit off topic. But i am curious if your engine is what you expected from Duncan? After hearing a lot of unpleased stories maybe your experience with him was good, and you got what he promised. Might help future clients.

Cheers Jeroen

You can get by without the locking tool. A little something to hold the flywheel and an impact on the crank pulley bolt.

x2. There are a number of ways to do it. I made this in a few minutes out of some scrap metal.

He has been great. The engine was in great shape, I almost feel bad about rebuilding it. The outside of it was pretty grungy from a bad power steering pump seal or hose. No deposits in the engine, nice cross-hatch on the cylinders.

The only negitive has been communications with the importing/customs people. They are in NY, but don't speak english very well. It was very hard getting info from them. An example is after it was released from RI customs, I had one day to pick it up or I would have to pay some sort of storage fee.

So, long and short is that I am very happy with Duncans product.
